My Response To ‘Stop Giving NBinted Attention’
To deserve to be banned, or not be banned, that is the question.
Happy New Year! It’s been a little while. Life, personal projects and getting sick a couple times has gotten me out of the habit of posting here. Let’s start off the new year with an article about… me.
In the last 9 months or so, I’ve definitely upset some VTuber fans. There are quite literally Tolkien novels worth of digital ink spilled over discussions and outrage over me. Not really sure if I’m worth that much time, but it is what it is. In the midst of that, there’s been a lot of telephone games about me. A lot of talk that ranges from slightly exaggerated to completely made up. Even the basic sequence of events gets lost along the way. Among the countless NBinted screeds, one continues to pop up. A Reddit post titled ‘Stop giving NBinted attention, they want it and you are giving it to them’.
Quick context: This comes from the Subreddit r/kurosanji. It’s a subreddit dedicated to criticism and mocking of the VTuber agency Nijisanji, which grew significantly in February of last year over the public backlash to Niji EN’s handling of the Selen Tatsuki incident. Though there are most definitely a number of very serious concerns to do with Niji EN, this subreddit like a lot of outrage based subreddits has produced a lot of slop. A lot of gossip and petty squabbles that are completely out of the realm of any kind of meaningful discussion or actions that could hold bad actors accountable.
I ended up being seen as a major Niji EN fandom figure there pretty much overnight, getting on their radar when I was a MUCH smaller account than I am now. I criticised and mocked creators that many of them looked to for Niji EN drama fixes, as well as various posts attempting to get their users riled up about random Twitter users. Suffice to say, they didn’t like me very much.
Normally I would brush off random dodgy Reddit threads. But I’ll be talking about this one for a few reasons. A big one being that it’s one of the first results when you Google “NBinted”, and kind of seems to have become a gospel on why I should be discredited. Another reason is that I feel like I need to set the record straight on some incredibly serious allegations held here outside of tweets that can get lost. Though I don’t always consider everything I do pure and nuanced, and though I can’t stop people saying what they want on the internet, I do have a right to speak out against unfounded malicious claims that seek to damage my reputation.
Finally before we get into things, please do not harass anyone in relation to this post. The original poster has long since erased their Reddit account. I wouldn’t have made this article if any of this could be easily traced back to a random person who could be targeted. This is my response to the ideas being stated, and I can’t speak on the person themselves outside of what’s been said here. However, the post remains and continues to be shared around. So let’s talk about it.
This is a pretty strange way to start. This post in itself is a lengthy post about the things that I’ve said, ironically giving me further attention. If anything both the subreddit and other sources only talked about me FAR MORE after this post started getting shared.
This “report campaign” was posts wherein I asked people to report two very specific accounts. One that had been evading suspensions for everything from aggressive transphobia to references to very serious doxing materials. Another is known for denying the Sandy Hook Massacre and being a notable figure in the harassment campaign against the VTuber Froot when she spoke out about her experience with abuse. With the exception of point blank TOS violations, harassment and bigotry, I’ve never personally asked that anyone report any materials to my knowledge. But you’re free to defend transphobes and Sandy Hook truthers if you wish.
I made a few posts in relation to the Sayu vs. Kenji situation. They were largely centred on criticism of Sayu, who I continue to not think particularly highly of. My criticism of her is what set off a lot of people about me in the first place. However, I went back and deleted many of those posts related to this specific situation when she gave an apology.
Once Kenji fans got involved, I was a lot less involved in the Twitter discourse I was seeing over this. More importantly, I did NOT push “pedo accusations”. I said a lot of things, and even though many of my tweets at the time are deleted, plenty of weird people archived everything I was posting on those days. So you’re free to try and find posts where I made these accusations. I will tell you now they don’t exist, and though many people were throwing accusations of those kinds at her I made a point not to put them out casually.
As for Legal Mindset, I could write plenty of things about how sketchy he is. But that isn’t what we’re here for today. The timeline of events here is absurdly wrong. My comments about Legal Mindset’s anti-vaccine rhetoric came weeks before the Kenji vs. Sayu situation. I said absolutely nothing to my memory AT ALL about his coverage of the situation, let alone in relation to talk of defamation.
Legal Mindset did in fact try to “debunk” my criticism of his anti-vaccine claims. Insofar as he used the plausible deniability of saying he was against “vaccine mandates” rather than vaccines in themselves. It’s a tried and true rhetorical strategy of conservatives that’s quite easy to see through.
The videos speak for themselves. It shouldn’t take a brain surgeon to understand that these are videos aimed to appeal to fears about vaccines and a belief that they’re dangerous and oppressive.
First of all, I’ve never even so much as looked at Khyomaru’s Discord. It’s also worth adding that Khyo has mostly stepped out of the VTuber drama content game, a decision I very much respect and reason enough for me to generally leave him alone these days.
Secondly, though the amount of attention I’ve paid to happenings in the FalseEyeD Discord has gone down quite a bit, there were very clear reasons and criticisms I had in looking at events transpiring there. I became aware of it from various stories of inappropriate behaviours happening there with minimal moderation.
FalseEyeD at this time has 182k subscribers, which puts him well and truly on the upper end of notable figures in the English VTuber world. As a figure whose work often involves reporting on other VTubers and their conduct, I don’t think it’s a lot to expect that he takes some level of responsibility for his own conduct and the conduct of a community that he directly moderates.
It’s worth noting that after the period where I was most critical of things happening in his Discord, False tightened a lot of rules in the server and shut down threads that were the worst offenders. In some cases, an issue I stated was directly addressed by the new rules. Though the moderation still seems to be lacking, there are rules against things like using code names to drag community figures whose names have been filtered that have stuck. So whether he wants to say it out loud or not, he more or less personally admitted there was some truth to what I was saying.
Considering I recently lost triple digits worth of followers for criticising things that I saw in the Niji EN fan community, the description of me as someone who’s afraid of any criticism of Niji EN doesn’t really hold up either. Moreover, I can point to several creators who I talk to semi-regularly who’ve done very critical videos about Nijisanji. If all I did was make enemies with people who say bad things about a VTuber company, I would have a lot less supporters.
Regarding Dokibird, these are completely made up claims. There were a lot of people saying I shared a document criticising her that said some fairly uncomfortable things. However, this all went down in February 2024. Meanwhile this account was largely dormant until April 2024. Basically, it’s totally bullshit and I have no idea where it even started. If you want to see my most comprehensive statement about Doki, you can find a post where I talked about it here.
In short, I’ve most definitely been critical of her, though there are a lot of embellishments and misunderstandings of things that I’ve said. But I’ve been very blunt in saying that what she went through and how management handled it was a horrifying unmitigated disaster regardless of any of that. Above all, she’s a human being who deserves to be supported and deserves to be treated with empathy. I’ve always believed that.
I can say quite honestly that I haven’t looked at anything being said about me on r/kurosanji in several months, save for going back to this post. Still have just as many things to talk about. More importantly, r/kurosanji users quite literally started this. I was a 15 follower account that had a random viral tweet, and was instantly made into a character on r/kurosanji. I wouldn’t have had much at all to say about r/kurosanji if there weren’t posts with hundreds of upvotes week after week constantly starting shit with random fan accounts. And as I said earlier, this didn’t stop after this post.
Says that I was calling for reporting campaigns, and that I was merely “crying crocodile tears” about harassment. Then ends their “stop giving them attention” post with a call to action for a reporting campaign against me. No comment.
I never claimed to be a reporter, or a comprehensive news source. My background is in part media adjacent, but I’m not a journalist. You shouldn’t treat me as a journalist, and like anyone else you should never take me nor anyone as a reliable source without justification. I’m also very obviously not, as this person claimed, a “content farmer”. At the time I had made $0 as NBinted, and even to this day I’ve made incredibly little. What little I’ve made has been voluntary donations and commissions for helping others’ with their own projects. Everything I’ve posted about has been something that I’ve personally cared about on some level. Whether you like me or not, I’ve never said anything simply for “content” or “attention”.
So there you have it. My grand debunking of the great NBinted rrat. If you have any more questions about any of these situations or anything else, you’re free to message or comment. I’m also happy to provide sources on things that I’ve said in DMs, some I’ve deliberately left out of here to reduce the chances of reigniting months old arguments. I’m not a cartoon character, and I’m more than capable of clarifying things that I’ve said in more detail even though I accept I’m never going to convince everyone.
Thank you for reading this far! There should also be a new bintMail out sooner than later to offset this messy navel-gazing chatter. So look forward to that!
